This is a story of Nellie Starr, a
young Cherokee girl who is forced to leave her home along with her family. This
story would be beneficial to students because it tells the story of Trail of
Tears through the eyes of a child. The students will be able to more easily
place themselves in Nellie’s shoes. This story is historical fiction and is appropriate for
grade 3 and up.
